With helicopters finding more use in the construction industry, knowing how to carry and place external loads by cable using vertical reference techniques is becoming an increasingly valuable skill for chopper pilots.

The place to get that training in Southern California is Western Helicopter, Inc. based at Rialto Municipal Airport. Since 1963, it has offered a full line of helicopter services, including flight instruction, charters, external-load carrying and technical support.

Experience is the key to Western Helicopters' success. Senior instructors Pete Gillies and Bob Spencer bring more than 60 years of combined experience to the cockpit; between them, they have logged more than 30,000 hours in helicopters.

Company owner R.L. Greene is an accomplished pilot with more than 13,000 flight hours.

Western Helicopters' FAA-approved Part 141 flight school offers a wide variety of training, starting with primary helicopter instruction for the private and commercial license. It also offers Part-61 advanced training for CFI and IFR ratings, turbine transition, mountain flying, emergency procedures and external load lifting, plus day and night auto-rotations.

Among the wide range of charter services available are aerial crane, FARPart 135 air taxi, powerline and pipeline patrol, aerial surveying, frost control, wire-pulling, firefighting, and movie, video and still photography.

Western Helicopters also provides initial pilot qualification, recurrency, turbine transition and mission-specific training, and maintenance for more than 35 California law enforcement and other agencies.

For more information, call (909) 829-1056, fax (909) 829-2550 or check the Western Helicopters web page at: www.westernops.com.
