Hangar Talk: Poetry/Writing

On Retirement From Flying
By Doug Atkins, 2001 (douglas.atkins@btopenworld.com)

       To break through winters' overcast,
Into the bright blue sky above,
Would thrill me now as it always has
Since the beginning of my love.
A love that's lasted forty years
And is still as strong today
As when my heart first told me
       Just where my future lay.
But now, no longer, am I part
Of that sweet life that stole my heart,
But just another "Used to be",
Aged, not broken, but no longer free.
