  Justin Hull Responded

I agree with the editorial about putting some sass back into flying. As a fairly new pilot (123 hrs over 2.5 years) I have watched my time and interest wan. Not that my love for flying (make that passion) has decreased in any way, but my wants cannot match the costs of flying regulaly. I also have run tino the " Club" members who sniff their noses at me and tell me that " I am not an aviator!" . So what? I love to fly....I look at almost every plane the flies over me...and I try to be the safest, flight aware pilot I can be. But sisnce I don't " own" a plane or cannot spend enough time " hanger flying" (I do have to work) I don't seem to be allowed membership. Truth is...I am frustrated. I know I can learn from more experienced pilots, but the doors are closed there. I want to own my own plane (just as I own my 22' sailboat) but the costs are to high for my income. How is it that america can build a car that can do 0-60 in 6 secs, have all the comforts of home and cost half as much as a noisy, rattling slow poke of an airplane that goes only half again as fast. I fly a plane that pound for pound weighs less then my truck and yet used!!!!! costs three times as much. If we could stop 60mil law suits...encourage the Gov to lighten up on new materials (and some regs) and accept the fact the there is such a thing as acceptable risk..GA could start moving again. It wont happen. Not until out society view the aircraft with the same liability as a car.
P.S. Imagine if the big three auto makers were subject to the same rigorous safety requirements as aircraft makers are. That the Gov. stated a Zero Accedent policy amongst truckers, buses, and commercial carriers. Imagine if the regs said that a car driver had to survive a 90 mph crash with only minor injuries. I am not against safety....I am for balanced perspective.
