I searched high and low for the pinout to be able to upload my
database upgrades into my Garmin 90. Now that I have them I thought I should
share them with the rest. With the cost of flying, I like to save money where
ever possible, so this was an ideal project to undertake. Some of the connectors
were scrounged from my massive supply of extra parts, others purchased. Even if
all the connectors were purchased new this should be a project well under $10.
I wired the end of the yoke mount cable with Molex connectors. This way I can
detach the RS232 cables, and also change from a lighter plug to a pre-installed
source of power. A separate Molex connector was made for each, with the black
wire being common between them. If there is a request, I can supply a drawing of
my finished installation. Unless you are used to working with computer cables
and low wattage soldering irons, ask for some help from someone! Be sure to
install the hood on the RS232 connector.
If using a DB9, RS232 connector (Mouse Port) use this pinout; BROWN Pin 2,
WHITE Pin 3, BLACK Pin 5.
If using a DB25, RS232 connector (Com 2 Port) use this pinout:
WHITE Pin 2, BROWN Pin 3, BLACK Pin 7.
Cigarette lighter plug RED Positive (center pin) BLACK Negative
(side contacts) *The cigarette lighter plug I used has the fuse inside if it, so
be sure that you use a 1/4 amp fuse!
