This in a very informative book with a completely positive aspect on a
very difficult subject.
The author does not dwell on what pilots have done incorrectly that has
contributed to the number of fatalities or severe injuries, but what
they can do to help disperse the crash energy forces to the aircraft,
using the dispensable parts of the aircraft, the terrain itself, and
even some
manmade structures before the occupants have to absorb the impact.
After reviewing 12,500 accident reports over a five year period with
input from the NTSB, FAA statistics (Operation System Branch), FAA
Aircraft Certification, (Small Airplane Directorate), FAA Aeromedical
Branch, Transportation Institute of Safety, U. S. Forest Service, U. S.
Coast Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and other aircraft accident investigators, it
has been concluded if the pilots of many fatal accidents considered the
options spoken to in the book, many of those accidents would very well
have been survivable.
The book is simply facts, figures, statistics, and a mathematical
computation used by aeronautical engineers, and is not just one persons
idea on “How to Crash an Airplane (and survive!).”
The book is understandable reading for non-pilots through Airline
Transport Pilot, and is the ultimate "How to book..." for all pilots of
general aviation airplanes.
