Models
By Tom Edwards, Edwards Aerospace, 1995
I have flown the tiny Sopwith
to do battle with the Hun
And crossed the great Pacific
on the first Air Mail run
I fought with Zekes and Messerschmidts
to save us from a foe
I am the first to fly the speed of sound
with effects we couldn't know
Screaming jets blazing and a jarring catapult blast
I could count the flight in seconds
when the Migs went whistling past
The mighty Saturn lifted our Apollo rendezvous
we fly through space, the human race
to a landing on the moon
I often join up with them
on their journey to the stars
the seven special people whose lives transcended ours
I'm reminded of the heroes with destiny to fly
would earn their wings in these fragile things
and many that have died
Oh, I've never fought or flown
but admire those that do
Their lofty trips in great airships
to sortie in the blue
On weekends at an airshow I get to share at last
the love I have for airplanes
and it will never pass
So I'll dream my flights of fancy
with a model airplane in my hand
And land it back home safely
on its little wooden stand
